Below is a list of the actions organized by GetEQUAL and Marriage Equality USA, in partnership with many other grassroots organizations on Valentine’s Day:

ARIZONA

PHOENIX

What: Arizona LGBT Centennial Marriage Event: A Celebration of Love!

When: Tuesday, Feb 14th, 4:00-5:30 PM

Contact: Lee Walters, dlb_walters@yahoo.com

Link: https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/342331635788117/

Description: On February 14th, 2012 the State of Arizona is holding the Centennial Marriage Event, an officially-sanctioned wedding ceremony held on the 100th anniversary of Arizona’s statehood. The event is open to anyone – anyone, that is, who is legally eligible to marry in the state. Such an event highlights the inequality and state-enforced discrimination against citizens of Arizona, while HERO is sponsoring the Arizona LGBT Centennial Marriage Event: A Celebration of Love!

Everyone should be treated EQUALLY, and everyone should have access to the same rights and responsibilities granted every other American under the law! The Arizona LGBT Centennial Marriage Event is sponsored by H.E.R.O. and GetEQUAL Arizona, and is a chance to celebrate a couple’s life together in a public event officiated by a member of the clergy, celebrating two lives becoming one. This is a marriage celebration to give committed couples the opportunity to tell the world about their love, share their commitment with family, friends, and strangers, yes, even strangers!

We’ll celebrate that all love is equal with cake and flowers while reminding the world that Prop 8 and DoMA mean that these couples are denied equality. If you have any questions about the event or if you are interested in helping make this marriage equality successful, please contact PFLAG BROWNSVILLE at (956)433-3524.

Where: Milam Park to the San Antonio Courthouse

Contact: Amanda Benton, 210-380-8754

Link: http://www.facebook.com/events/127865227326481/

Description: This Valentine’s Day, like every Valentine’s Day, Bexar County will hold free mass wedding ceremonies on the steps of the Bexar County Courthouse. This Valentine’s Day, like every Valentine’s Day, same-sex couples will be excluded from the ceremony and from the benefits o…f legal marriage in Texas.

Please join us for a peaceful and very visible historic march to stand two by two in an enactment of the marriage ceremony, as close to the Courthouse steps as we can get. At 10:30 PM, we will meet at Milam Park to prepare for our walk. Please wear “wedding” attire- casual to formal is okay. 11:00 PM, we will begin marching to the courthouse; wear comfortable shoes!  At 12:01, we will stand as close as we are permitted to the Courthouse steps and enact the wedding ceremony along with our straight brothers and sisters. Please keep in mind that this day is sacred to those getting married; our peaceful presence is our statement- we will NOT be shouting or disrupting the ceremony. However, it is our goal to have more same-sex couples there than opposite-sex, and to make national and international news. We will respect everyone, and our presence will demand the same.  You do not need to be LGBT to participate, just a supporter of EQUALITY. Marriage Equality is a vital civil right denied to most same-sex couples except in that handful of states where it has finally been recognized. It is vital because marriage is about committed couples—all committed couples—who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other. This can only strengthen family and society. This is why Marriage Equality is important to everyone. It’s not just about the word Marriage. Denying committed couples the security and legal protections of marriage hurts them. It’s just plain wrong to make it harder for them to take care of and be responsible for each other. The institution of civil marriage offers equal protection under the law when it comes to taxes, health care and decision-making, employment benefits, and perhaps most importantly, raising healthy and happy children. ****DANSA is currently looking for volunteers! We need help with securing transportation for those unable to march, public relations/outreach, social media, coordination, and guest speakers. If you are interested in getting married for FREE, please contact us.
