Texas Activists Fight Back Against
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Hate-Filled Votes in Congress

Tired of being relegated to second-class citizenship,
Texan LGBT activists say, “Enough is enough!”

AUSTIN — Early next week, LGBT activists across Texas will rally for repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” choosing to hold their Senators accountable for repeatedly dismissing their calls to be on the right side of history.

After the completion of a long-awaited study on the impact on active-duty troops of repealing the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law, a new stand-alone bill was drafted specifically to repeal the law. Senator Hutchison still stands against the removal of this discriminatory law, despite the wishes of her constituents, a majority of Americans, a majority of the military, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen, and President Barack Obama.

“This law represents the worst of America,” said Michael Diviesti, an organizer with GetEQUAL Texas and former Private First Class (PFC) in the United States Army. “We expect more from our military, more from our elected leaders, and more from our very own Senator. We’re calling on Senator Hutchison to vote for our national security and for equality — and to be a prophetic voice for all residents of the Lone Star State.”

WHAT: Closeted Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) military servicemembers are forbidden to stand up and demand repeal for themselves, so we must be their voice. Join us in a state wide rally as Veterans, allies and LGBT community members show our support to repeal this law.
